The impression I draw from what I'm reading in these days of the election is that the leaders of small parties continue safely with these ridiculous political games with these combinations or divisions ghostly totally senseless. And the responsibility for this situation can not be charged to one person or one group, but must be distributed fairly.

Tuttavia non possiamo trascurare il fatto che due milioni di voti segnalano la persistenza di un bacino elettorale non piccolo in attesa di trovare una degna rappresentanza. È un dato rilevante anche perché io credo che questo bacino elettorale sia potenzialmente molto più ampio, se si considerano quelli che, come me, non sono andati a votare e i tanti che hanno scelto Di Pietro per una valutazione contingente e tattica legata a una sua maggiore visibilità in chiave antiberlusconiana. Sommando i voti raccolti dalle liste di sinistra, gli astenuti (che sono stati moltissimi sia alle elezioni del 2008 sia alle ultime europee) e i tanti elettori di sinistra che hanno scelto Di Pietro, si raggiunge una quota che secondo me si attesta attorno al 15 per cento dell’elettorato. Ed è una valutazione che ritengo molto, ma molto cauta, se si pensa che fino a poco tempo fa la sinistra sociale raccoglieva tranquillamente il 12 per cento dei voti e nel frattempo sono intervenuti mutamenti che potenzialmente ne accrescerebbero in modo rilevante la capacità di attrazione. Parliamo dunque di una fetta consistente di società, che se solo riuscisse a esprimere un progetto all’altezza riuscirebbe a incidere profondamente sugli equilibri politici del nostro paese.
Che cosa ci riserva il futuro? La mia impressione è che ci sia non solo un problema di classi dirigenti autistiche, chiuse nelle loro stanze e nei loro discorsi autoreferenziali, ma anche un problema più generale di struttura stessa della rappresentanza politica. Penso per esempio alle figure che periodicamente vengono presentate alle elezioni: non c’è nessun rapporto tra queste personalità e la società che dovrebbero rappresentare. Nessuno riesce mai a verificare il loro operato.
Io non sono contrario alle elezioni per motivi di principio: ovviamente la cosa ha un senso se è funzionale a un progetto politico. Ma la sinistra sociale non può rapportarsi al problema della rappresentanza in modo identico a quello degli altri partiti, se no viene meno la sua stessa ragion d’essere. Per esser sinceri fino in fondo, credo di averlo fatto con il sentimento di chi va verso una specie di «plotone d’esecuzione» politico. Infatti, dopo la discutibile scissione a opera di alcuni degli sconfitti di Chianciano, e con un partito che in questi anni è stato irresponsabilmente sradicato dal territorio e che di fatto ancora non dispone di un preciso progetto di costruzione del consenso, nutrivo dei dubbi sulla possibilità di raggiungere la soglia del 4 per cento. Ma il punto è che se anche la lista avesse raggiunto quella soglia, le cose in realtà non sarebbero cambiate moltissimo. Penso infatti che i problemi di fronte ai quali ci troviamo vengano da lontano e siano profondissimi. Anche per questo, se permettete, credo che per affrontare correttamente un discorso su quale futuro attenda la sinistra in Italia occorra sviluppare una breve analisi preliminare.
Il dato da cui penso sia necessario partire è che le ultime elezioni hanno confermato una tendenza già ben visibile da molti anni: i lavoratori subordinati – soprattutto i lavoratori con minori tutele che operano nel settore privato e con mansioni esecutive – hanno da tempo abbandonato i partiti socialisti e comunisti, cioè i partiti eredi più o meno legittimi della tradizione del movimento operaio, e hanno indirizzato sempre di più il loro voto verso le destre, especially towards the populist right. Vincolare questi movimenti significa infatti impedire ai capitali di scorrazzare liberamente da un capo all’altro del mondo a caccia dei massimi rendimenti, cioè delle maggiori possibilità di sfruttamento del lavoro. Significa quindi impedire ai capitali di mettere in sfrenata concorrenza i lavoratori a livello globale. As for the Communist left, anti-capitalist and so-called "radicals," we have too often witnessed grotesque attitudes, dictated by ignorance and cunning. In the heyday of the anti-globalization movement, there was indeed an opportunity to launch a real challenge to the hegemony of the socialist parties, which at the time enthusiasts celebrated the great virtues of liberalism. It happened however that we lost around a series of folkloric and ridiculous proposals, such as to counter the globalization by creating small communities of self-production and consumption, even in our small apartment.
Here, I think at that stage have lost the important occasions. And in part it is also depended upon the fact that the elites of the left "radical" have not shown any interest in the possibility of making a clean sweep folklore, really contend for hegemony within the socialist parties. Instead they seemed more interested in keeping their hands free to take from time to time, some sweetener, some prebend by those parties. So if the leaders of the left "radical" if they must go, a good reason for doing so is that they have had some historic opportunities and have badly wasted.

Ora, io credo che una sinistra adeguata a questo tempo debba imparare a misurarsi con questi nuovi veleni e costruire degli antidoti. Con umiltà. Sapendo che non ci sono ricette consolidate. Soluzioni già sperimentate. Che bisogno inventare, privilegiando l’ascolto di ciò che si muove nel sociale, prima di dare la stura ai proclami. È vero che la micropolitica dell’altermondialismo appare insufficiente rispetto alla dimensione dei problemi, ma la grande politica del neoprotezionismo non è la risposta adeguata.
Dal Lago:
Sì, anch’io non sono del tutto convinto dal discorso sul nazionalismo. Qualche settimana fa sono stati diffusi dati interessanti sul fatto che Italian wages are virtually the lowest in Europe. I believe that there should be identified a key component of the crisis. The fact remains that, as I said before, there is still a large segment of the electorate willing to, well, not "nationalization", not "territorialisation 'in the sense League. Tanto per fare un esempio, legato alla contingenza politica più spicciola, subito dopo le elezioni ho sentito l’ex segretario di Rifondazione Franco Giordano parlare di grandi scenari, grandi prospettive e così via, e immediatamente dopo chiedere a Linda Lanzillotta – una delle esponenti del centro-sinistra che più si è distinta per subalternità al pensiero unico liberista nonché fra i principali sostenitori della privatizzazione dei servizi pubblici – se vi fosse un po’ di spazio per Sinistra e libertà nelle future strategie del Partito democratico, senza nemmeno chiarire i termini di un eventuale accordo. Ecco, io credo che questo iato spaventoso tra dichiarazioni roboanti e pratica politica effettiva sia un altro sintomo della profonda crisi nella quale ci troviamo immersi. Se non facciamo muro, avanzando analisi e proposte politiche precise e alternative, secondo me non ne usciremo mai.

I termini del dissenso con Brancaccio si sono fatti espliciti. È un dissenso molto forte, molto netto, molto polarizzato. Io non credo assolutamente che la metamorfosi radicale dell’universo del lavoro a cui abbiamo assistito nell’ultimo quarto di secolo sia ascrivibile solo a scelte e a ragioni politiche. Ci sono delle dinamiche profonde, tecnologiche, organizzative, di «paradigma» vorrei dire, che hanno determinato tutto questo. Indubbiamente ci sono degli imprenditori politici che hanno quotato alla borsa del consenso i risultati di questo processo e hanno enfatizzato gli aspetti torbidi che esso implicava. Penso al fenomeno della xenofobia e al modo in cui la Lega utilizza la paura e la competizione fra lavoratori. Ma la politica non è l’unico fattore esplicativo di ciò che è accaduto nella società.
Dal 1980 a oggi io ho visto la mia città, Torino, mutare faccia dal punto di vista della sua composizione sociale per effetto di potentissimi processi tecnico-organizzativi. Ho visto la Fiat Mirafiori svuotarsi, passare da 60 mila operai (con 130 mila dipendenti complessivi di Fiat Auto) a 10 mila… Tutto questo non è solo il prodotto di scelte politiche, ma ha a che fare con le trasformazioni profonde nel corpo del capitale. Non credo quindi che sia «politicizzando» radicalmente la questione che noi ne veniamo a capo.
Così come continuo a essere convinto che la segmentazione su base nazionale dei mercati, come Brancaccio la propone, sia un’operazione devastante, in primo luogo per quanto riguarda la ricaduta di ciò sulle «culture politiche» implicate nell’operazione, e sugli atteggiamenti di massa, le dinamiche simboliche, le mentalità collettive che dovrebbero necessariamente essere mobilitate in quest’operazione di intervento massiccio sulle strutture economiche e finanziarie. Risegmentare mercati che si sono integrati significa costruire barriere, fratture, confini attraverso l’impiego di valori simbolici aggressive, because the re-nationalization implies identity homogeneous, cohesive, geographically rooted and objectively fascist. Pone ovviamente dei giganteschi problemi di governance, di gestione politica del processo, ma non possiamo rifiutare queste opportunità e queste prospettive in quanto tali.. La sinistra non è stata capace di nuotare in questo nuovo mare senza andare a ricercare ricette vecchie, ricette novecentesche. Cerchiamo di evitare che naufraghi l’intera, fragile, umanità presente e futura.
Dal Lago:
Da quando i fenomeni migratori (e le problematiche a essi connesse) hanno conquistato una certa importanza in questo paese, all’interno di una certa sinistra si è diffuso il concetto di «guerra fra poveri», che secondo me è fondamentalmente sbagliato. Cerco di spiegarmi: il conflitto a cui si fa riferimento con questa espressione è in larga parte un conflitto immaginario, non un conflitto reale. L’operaio che decide di votare Lega o Pdl è comunque uno che in un paese come l’Italia ha un salario basso: parliamo di un salario che oscilla fra i 700 e i 1.200 euro al mese ed è – come si è detto prima – fra i più bassi d’Europa. L’elemento di riterritorializzazione – che prenda la forma di una regionalizzazione oppure di una nazionalizzazione della sua identità – ha un valore di supplenza evidente; ma se poi torniamo a guardare all’aspetto eminentemente materiale, al lato degli «interessi», questa territorializzazione non porta alcun tipo di vantaggio.
Negli anni scorsi abbiamo tanto criticato un approccio esclusivamente economicista e materialista da parte della sinistra, ma tenendo fede a quell’approccio è facile rendersi conto che gli «interessi» non c’entrano con la paura nei confronti della moschea del quartiere o degli immigrati in generale, paura then materializes in horrific things like rejections at sea, which are nothing more than "preventive assassinations" of human beings.

Anche io condivido quanto detto da Brancaccio sullo iato incredibile fra dichiarazioni roboanti come quelle di Giordano seguite da richieste pigolanti di collaborazione rivolte al Pd, ma qui siamo di fronte a un più generale problema di qualità scadente di questo ceto politico. È gente che è rimasta indietro di vent’anni, che non è assolutamente in grado di capire la nuova situazione che si è venuta a creare e soprattutto che difende le proprie posizioni acquisite. Prima però di affrontare la questione del futuro della sinistra italiana, devo rispondere a Dal Lago sul blocco dei capitali. Questo governo non sta agendo nella direzione del controllo dei capitali. Anzi, questo governo in realtà latita in un momento nel quale effettivamente le destre tradizionali europee si sono mosse a protezione dei capitali nazionali: il caso Fiat-Chrysler-Opel è indicativo proprio della latitanza del governo nazionale su questo versante, con rischi occupazionali elevatissimi dei quali ci accorgeremo a breve.
Aggiungo anche un altro chiaro esempio del fatto che al momento non c’è alcun blocco dei capitali. Poiché i mercati finanziari sono completamente globalizzati, i paesi relativamente deboli come il nostro sono tutt’ora esposti al rischio di un attacco speculativo sui titoli nazionali, cioè di una fuga di capitali all’estero. Si tratta di un attacco che questa volta potrebbe avere ripercussioni ancora più violente di quelle che si ebbero nel 1992 e che oltretutto decretarono una sconfitta pesantissima della sinistra sindacale e politica. Ovviamente, se venisse introdotto un meccanismo di blocco dei movimenti di capitali, il rischio di un attacco speculativo potrebbe essere scongiurato. Ma di blocchi al momento non si vede traccia, e quindi il pericolo è sempre in agguato.
